Silkeborg Ungdomsskole 10th Grade

ABOUT THE ORGANISATION
Silkeborg Ungdomsskole offers formal and non-formal learning activities to young people aged 14 to 18 years old based in Silkeborg. The town of Silkeborg is based in central Jutland, and has a population of circa 50.000 residents.
The School consists of circa 300 learners engaged in formal education, 36 teaching staff and 16 other staff. There are circa 2000 young people involved in the leisure department at the school. The leisure department at Silkeborg Ungdomsskole, offers non-formal learning opportunities through thematic leisure activity teams, youth clubs, camps and excursions.
ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION
We are looking for 1 volunteer who is active and motivated to take part in teaching and create small projects in various areas together with young people. You will work closely with one or two of the school’s teachers; you will be part of the planning, execution and evaluation of various teaching courses. We expect you to be energetic and have the will to challenge yourself and our organization with your ideas.
You will primarily work with young people aged 15 – 17. The task consists of assisting one or two teachers in teaching the students in the 10th grade. You will mainly be associated with our international profile in subjects such as languages, electives and joint classes.
VOLUNTEER PROFILE
You are expected to be responsible, independent – sometimes you will work on your own. You need good communicative English and must be motivated by working with young people. Flexible, tolerant and ready to take initiative. Willing to live in Denmark, learn the language, experience the climate and culture. You must be willing to share your culture and knowledge.
PRACTICALITIES
The volunteer will stay with a local Danish host family.
In the host families the volunteer will be expected to become part of the family and as such take part in the activities and responsibilities in the family. The volunteer will have his/her three meals provided by the host family and/or project. Transport to and from home to the project is covered by the programme.
As a part of the European Solidarity Corps program, the following is covered by us:
- International transport is covered to a certain amount. The EU sets a budget depending on the distance to our office. If you travel in a green way your budget will be higher!
- Health insurance
- Food and accommodation
- Allowance/pocket money: 250 euro/month in total: 210 euro (decided by the department of the EU) + 40 euro from the local AFS department.
- Transportation covered: from home to project and from home to language school (if chosen).
Working hours: 30 – 38 hours/week
All volunteers save up to 2 holidays every month.

These are voluntary activities in the club as well as courses and classes that teach languages, sports, music, creative courses and much more.

Blåkilde Efterskole
DATES: August 2024 – June 2025 (The exact length of the mobility is depending on the funding from the EU commission).

ABOUT THE ORGANISATION
We are an independent boarding school for young people between the age of 14 to 18. Apart from the mandatory subjects, we offer a varied range of optional subjects in the field of sport, art, music, drama and outdoor.
Moreover, we have a range of alternative subject weeks at the school, where the activities that take place are different than normal. Among others we facilitate: travel week, musical week, arts and crafts week, internship week, project week and, two weeks with midterms. Apart from that we also host and attend various sports shows and events.
Blåkilde Efterskole is grounded in a Christian view of humanity which is the fundament of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Denmark. Blåkilde wishes to create openness and knowledge on Christianity concerning the individual student’s standpoint.
ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION
We are looking for two volunteers within two different fields.
SoMe, and marketing tasks: you will be working closely with the office and a couple of teachers responsible for the Social Media profiles and other platforms. We expect you to be part of special occasions, daily school life, and documenting fun and games. You will be equipped with a camera and a computer. Besides this, there will be a variety of tasks according to your skills and interests.
Taking part in the practical tasks: you will be part of the kitchen team and get to work with the students. All the students take part in the kitchen work, and you will get a chance to connect with the students during the tasks. Besides that, you can be part of the outdoor team according to your skills and interests.
In some cases, it is possible for the volunteers to participate in the optional subjects, either as a teaching assistant or as a participant eg. Pottery, art, sewing, volleyball, handball, music etc.
We expect you to learn Danish, ordinarily in language school and will plan your volunteer work according to the language school schedule.
VOLUNTEER PROFILE
At Blåkilde Efterskole we find it very important that the volunteer can agree to the core values of the school.
This is an independent boarding school with connection to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Denmark, and on a daily basis we gather in devotion, which is something that the volunteer has to be willing to participate in.
Moreover, it is important that the volunteer wishes to be with and cooperate with our students, and that the volunteer is interested in learning Danish. At the same time, we expect to be able to communicate effortlessly in English as well.
We prefer applicants who are 21- 25 years old
