Bună ziua!
I am Sona, and I’m back from Romania with a story full of emotions.

From September 2024 to April 2025, I had the chance to be part of the Arts Lab project, and this journey has truly left a mark on me. The project was unique because of its themes and the Art itself. It combined creativity, culture, and community in a way I had never experienced before.

I’ve been living with 14 other amazing artists in one house, sounds crazy, right? But trust me it was worth it, and it was one of the best experiences in the whole project. Imagine waking up every day in a house full of different cultures, traditions, and habits.

The Arts Lab wasn’t just about painting or crafting. It was about connecting people through museums, workshops, and shared experiences. We’ve been creating artworks for the 4 alternative museums which will open in 2028, each with its own history and charm, and developed activities that brought them to life.
One of the most meaningful parts of the project was working with children and youngsters from rural areas and youth centres. Through workshops and school residencies, we created art together, told stories, and learned from one another. I also had the chance to collaborate with elder crafters, which gave me a deep appreciation for traditional knowledge and skills. These intergenerational exchanges were beautiful, full of respect and curiosity.

The journey was full of challenges and surprises. Living and working in a multicultural team taught me to be more open, flexible, and confident. I stepped out of my comfort zone many times, and every time I grew a little more, both personally and professionally.

Romania welcomed me with kindness, and now I carry a piece of it in my heart. Arts Lab wasn’t just a volunteering project, it was a turning point. A story of learning, sharing, and becoming.
