My Experience in Strasbourg with Association Ballade

Wow, what a year. A year full of adventures, lessons, music, new people, new cultures—and a new me.

My ESC volunteering experience with Association Ballade in Strasbourg has been one of the sweetest and most meaningful chapters of my life. From the very beginning, I was welcomed with warmth and kindness, and I quickly found myself surrounded by people who shared a deep love for music, community, and cultural exchange.

Throughout the year, I took part in workshops in schools and cultural centers, working with people of all ages and backgrounds. Each project brought something new—whether it was teaching rhythms to children, singing with teenagers, or sharing music with older generations. No matter who we worked with, there was always a common language: music.

Over the twelve months, we performed concerts regularly—sometimes more, sometimes less—but always with passion and joy. We explored repertoire from different countries and traditions, and had the opportunity to perform in various venues and cities. This constant exchange of music and culture helped me grow not only as a musician, but also as a person. It taught me to listen better, to adapt, to collaborate, and to connect through art.

One of the most special parts of this experience was discovering the world of balfolk. I had never been part of that scene before, and stepping into it felt like entering a new universe. The dances, the live music, the sense of community—it was magical. As a musician, having the chance to learn and play in this environment was a true gift. It opened new artistic doors for me and sparked inspiration that I will carry forward in my life and career.

Association Ballade and the NGO Future in Our Hands gave me the space and support to explore, to create, and to grow. I will always be thankful for their trust and for the beautiful opportunities they offered me.

But perhaps the most unforgettable part of this year was the people. I met friends who quickly became like family—people with whom I shared laughter, challenges, songs, travels, and so many unforgettable memories. These connections have left a deep mark on my heart, and I know they will stay with me for a lifetime.

This year in Strasbourg has been transformative. I leave with new skills, new inspirations, and a heart full of gratitude.
