Back in May I had the opportunity to participate in the training course “Unlocking Portable Educational Escape Rooms” in Sweden. It was an inspiring and creative experience full of learning and collaboration.
Together with 20 youth workers and educators from 12 countries we explored how educational escape rooms can make learning fun, meaningful and inclusive. We didn’t just play them — we actually co-created 5 portable escape rooms on topics like inclusion, media literacy, mental health, the environment and sustainability, language and culture.

Now the training is behind me but its lasting influence continues to shape my approach to teaching, especially in how I engage students, encourage creativity and incorporate interactive methods like game-based learning into the classroom. Since then I’ve recreated some of the escape rooms for the young people in my community and high school. Seeing their excitement when learning turns into a challenge-based game has been incredibly rewarding.

Beyond the learning we danced, laughed, collaborated and built friendships across cultures. I’m truly grateful for everything I gained — tools, ideas and above all, renewed motivation. This was also a chance to experience and feel Sweden — both the vibrant atmosphere of its capital and the peaceful beauty of its rural landscapes.

Huge thanks to Awesome People for hosting this incredible experience and to my sending organization FIOH for supporting me at every step of the journey. ❤
