883-PernikClean part of river bank from old trees and bushes to create “free of waste” zone with new plants and benches, create Prevention Strategy to stop pollution.

AKSELS (Pernik, Bulgaria) is looking for  motivated volunteers to participate in the project CLEAN UP! from 1st March 2017 to 28th February 2018. The project activities will include cleaning a part of the river banks in our village of Meshtitsa, Pernik municipality, and planting new trees to

strengthen them. The area will be turned into a “free of waste” zone with decoration bushes and flowers, wooden benches and fences. The volunteers will grow themselves the some of the flowers together with their own vegetable garden. They will also create a Prevention Strategy to stop local people from throwing out their house waste into the river and the banks and to popularize the Erasmus+ programme and EVS in the area.

The project will include the following activities:

– Bulgarian language lessons, teambuilding activities, field study activities;
– elaboration of a detailed working plan for creation of the “Free of waste” area – joint work with local volunteers, landscape architect, environmental officer, mayor’s office (design, cleaning, planting, protecting, building recreation structures, beautifying, etc.);
– building a green houses for flowers and vegetables and caring for young plants before planning them in the open;
– field work – clearing the identified area and cutting of bushes and trees;
– planting new trees, flowers and bushes;
– carpentry work – building up protection constructions around young trees, building recreation structures – benches, fences and shelters and painting and decorating them;
– planting and growing their own eco vegetables in the garden;
– elaboration of short videos and promotional materials – leaflets, posters, brochures;
– studying Bulgarian traditional cuisine – gathering their own eco vegetables and preserving some of them for winter;
– social contacts with local youths and seniors – studying Bulgarian culture and cuisine;
– active prevention field campaign and collecting input information for the Prevention Strategy – field inquiry;
– elaboration of Prevention Strategy;
– elaboration and distribution of EVS promotional materials – brochures, posters, videos. Active work with local schools and partner organization on environmental protection and EVS promotion;
– preparation of certificates to validate the acquired and/or improved knowledge and skills.
