TC “Selective prevention, a program of opportunities”

Summary of the project:

“SELECTIVE PREVENTION. A PROGRAM OF OPPORTUNITIES” is a project in which the entity organizing, Pokhara Association, intends to accommodate 21 participants from 6 entities from 5 different countries (Bulgaria, Italy, Lithuania, Latvia and Armenia) and train their workers in the field of youth (all participants are workers or volunteers related to young people with fewer opportunities) in the field of selective prevention (SP). It will take place at Almagro, Ciudad Real, Spain, from 6-12 march 2017, at the Palacio de Valdeparaiso accommodation.

It is understood the SP as that which is directed to segments of the population in a situation of risk, primarily adolescents. The intention of this type of prevention is, in the first place, the modification of conditions or factors that facilitate or precipitate the use or abuse of drugs by making children increasingly vulnerable and, secondly, the renewal of behaviors, skills, values and attitudes toward the normalization. This type of methodology is framed within the strategy of the EU in the fight against drugs; strategy based on the fundamental principles of the Law of the EU and that respects the founding values of the Union: the respect for human dignity, liberty, democracy, equality, solidarity, the rule of law and human rights. Its purpose is to protect and improve the welfare of society and individuals, to protect public health, offer a high level of security for the population in general and to adopt a balanced and integrated approach of the drug phenomenon.

Following this line, and as an example of good practice, Pokhara Association, since 2013 develops the program of SP and indicated EMPU-G, pioneering experience on SP in Castilla La Mancha. This course represents a exercise of prevention, through which we train the different professionals, with the aim to achieve put in place in their countries initiatives that comply with the strategy marked by the EU.

There is no doubt that the SP is the strategy to respond to social needs in the field of drug consumption, and Castilla La Mancha with these initiatives, is placed at the head of the training of professionals in this field, becoming a reference for the prevention, this being the main objective of this project.

For the implementation will continue to be a methodology based on the practice and experience, which will give a training sessions, lectures or presentations in the morning; while in the afternoons we will rely on practical cases related to the subject, and recreational activities and free time.

For the training sessions will be counted with the presence of the following professionals (which will give remarkable quality to the implementation and results of the project):

  1. Lidia Prieto Caro. Social Educator with years of experience in the Selective prevention, Project Coordinator Empu-G, Technician in skills for Personal Autonomy and social attention to the family and adolescence
  2. Yolanda Perez Sanchez. Social Worker with years of experience in working with adolescents in the area of drugs (Municipal Plan of drugs) and in Project man.
  3. Amparo de la Serna. Coordinator of projects in the area of the prevention of drug addiction of the Miguelturra City Hall and the Calatrava Mancommunity. Management and Coordination of Youth Resource in the Miguelturra City Hall.
  4. Sonia Morales Calvo. Professor contracted doctor of the UCLM in Social Education.
  5. Amparo Pradillo. Child Psiquiatrist in General Hospital of Ciudad Real.

While for the rest of issues there will be responsible people  for ensuring the proper activities functioning and the achievement of positive results of the project.

A manual of SP will be published , made by the experts on the subject, which may be found in addition to English and Spanish, in all the languages of the participating partners. There will also be a moddle platform, where all the participants will be able to receive advice and information on SP. These and the rest of the results of the project, will be at all times with the Erasmus program logos, through which it is intended to publicize the program.

It is expected a great impact at all levels, due to the numerous dissemination methods envisaged.

Because of the novelty of the subject matter, and to the importance of the same at European level, to carry out this project, will involve numerous benefits, both in all workers in the field of youth which form an active part of it, as in users of its entities, i.e. young people with fewer opportunities with which these workers or volunteers will work and those who will be able to help from the point of view of the SP, carrying out an innovative, effective, efficient and highly productive methodology.

This project will provide to the participants an opportunity  to identify common values between people from different countries who, despite their cultural differences, all work with the same profile of young people and with common objectives.
