“SELECTIVE PREVENTION. A PROGRAM OF OPPORTUNITIES.PART II”

TRAINING COURSE, ALMAGRO (CIUDAD REAL)

Dates: 4-10/02/17

Description

It is understood the Selective Prevention as that which is directed to segments of the population in a situation of risk, primarily adolescents. The intention of this type of prevention is, in the first place, the modification of conditions or factors that facilitate or precipitate the use or abuse of drugs by making children increasingly vulnerable and, secondly, the renewal of behaviors, skills, values and attitudes toward the normalization. This type of methodology is framed within the strategy of the EU in the fight against drugs; strategy based on the fundamental principles of the
Law of the EU and that respects the founding values of the Union: the respect for human dignity, liberty, democracy, equality, solidarity, the rule of law and human rights. Its purpose is to protect and improve the welfare of society and individuals, to protect public health, offer a high level of security for the population in general and to adopt a balanced and integrated approach of the drug phenomenon.
Following this line, and as an example of good practice, Pokhara Association, since 2013 develops the program of Selective Prevention and indicated EMPU-G, pioneering experience on Selective Prevention in Castilla La Mancha. This course represents a exercise of prevention, through which we train the different professionals, with the aim to achieve put in place in their countries initiatives that comply with the strategy marked by the EU.
There is no doubt that the Selective Prevention is the strategy to respond to social needs in the field of drug consumption, and Castilla La Mancha with these initiatives, is placed at the head of the training of professionals in this field, becoming a reference for the prevention, this being the main objective of this project.

About Almagro:

Almagro is a Spanish town in the province of Ciudad Real, community of Castilla-La Mancha, and historical capital of Campo de Calatrava (Don Quixote Land).
Almagro is famous for its aubergine, cooked with a traditional formula (Almagro ́s aubergine).

Almagro lies within small Paleozoic mountain ranges, with some reserves of shallow creeks. It also lies within a volcanic zone, which lies upon a quartzite massif. It makes the zone particularly unique, in the sense that it is one of the few important zones of volcanic origin in the Iberian Peninsula. An International Festival of Classical Theater has also been celebrated here annually since 1978.
